Il Sentiero Degli Dei

When researching things to do and places to go in Italy, I wanted to find somewhere to hike or explore if possible and I kept seeing articles pop up about Sentiero Degli Dei, Hike of the Gods and Path of the Gods... once I saw photos of this so called hike, I knew I had to go!

We decided to stay in Positano when we were booking the Amalfi coast. I'd heard Sorrento and Positano were both amazing but that Sorrento typically drew bigger crowds and more tourists so we decided on Positano. I loved how laid back and calm the town was and it worked out that our hike ended right in the middle of this town.

There are plenty of ways to get to the town of Agerola to start the hike. You can take the city bus, you can take a ferry on the water and then a taxi or you can take a car directly to the starting point. The owner of our villa said taking the bus could be up to 2 hours and the ferry would be quicker, however they didn't have a ride until 10am and we planned to get on the path much earlier. We opted to take a driver with Positano Drivers to get there quickly and without any motion sickness! :)

Our driver had lived in and driven in Positano and Sorrento for 40 years and knew exactly how to get us to the beginning of the hike. The morning was a little overcast with scattered showers so we were worried there may be some storms during the hike... however, the weather cleared and it was a beautiful day.

There was plenty of signage at the beginning detailing the hike and some history as well as emergency numbers.

The beginning of the hike is a lot of farmland, beautiful views and even some goats and horses!

Further down the hike we found a sign that gave you the option to go towards Priano or Nocelle and Positano so we took a right and ran into a bunch of wild animals that we assumed were pets of the locals!

The hike says it will take about 3 hours and we thought we would be done quicker but you really have so many paths to explore and such beautiful sights it took us at least that long.

When you get to the end of the hike you arrive in Nocelle which is a small town. As soon as we got there, there was a lemonade stand and people hanging out relaxing. You can stop here or you can take the 1700 steps down to Positano into town.

I highly recommend the hike if you can swing it while in the Amalfi Coast, it is so beautiful and nice to get a little exercise while on vacation!

Since the hike isn't very strenuous you can wear just regular workout clothes and shoes but a sturdy bottom would be better as its pretty rocky in some areas. I would bring sunglasses and sunscreen as some areas so not have shade for awhile and you are in direct sunlight. I only drank about a bottle of water so you should be fine packing a light backpack! Definitely bring a camera for pictures!
